Another busy year at FMB!
During 2011 we had two new members joining the consultant team; Philip Barnes and Jon Nicholson as well as Helen Lishman and Melanie Green joining the client services team. We were pleased to welcome them all.
Our events calendar was bursting at the seams last year, we were the main sponsor for the Cumbria Chamber of Commerce business to business schedule. We have been pleased to support the chamber both through the B2B events and the Women in Business programme. Colleagues and I both spoke to audiences interested in Financial Planning for businesses at the B2B events during the year.
We began the year with a seminar for clients at the Crooklands Hotel with the Rathbones fund manager David Coombes as the keynote speaker. The seminar was a useful update for many of our clients invested in David’s funds, but also as a general guide to the state of the economy.
In September our seminar for Accountants and Solicitors was so well attended, we had to move to a bigger venue at The Stonecross Manor! Our speakers from Octopus and Way Investments gave excellent presentations about tax efficient investments and the innovative solutions their companies offer.
During the year we have also had a presence at the mountain festivals in the Lake District, promoting our specialist protection services for high risk adrenaline junkies! This is a niche market, but one of local importance – we also donate 15% of our fee to Mountain Rescue.
We have once again been proud to welcome the extraordinary Justin Urquhart Stewart to Kendal. He was with us for an event we hosted for FMB clients, professional connections and some special guests. The venue; Hawkshead Brewery at Staveley, proved to be a real draw and the locally produced buffet and real ales were a delicious treat before the crowd settled down to hear Justin’s round up of the global economy. Justin also gave some time to the local community, speaking to students of business and economics at Queen Elizabeth School, Kirkby Lonsdale. We have many connections with the school, not least the Managing Director’s son being a pupil! Ruth and I are both alumni, as is Graham Stott, one of the founders of 7IM with Justin Urquhart Stewart!
Finally, to cap it all, we were very proud to sponsor an award at the Lakeland Radio Pride of Lakeland Awards at the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal. I presented a lifetime achievement award to Raymond Watkins, who has taught swimming in Kendal for twenty five years. I was certainly thrilled to see Raymond receive the award, I’m sure many of you will know him as he is now teaching his third generation of pupils!
The last couple of months of the year were devoted to getting ready for our rebrand. We have made some major changes to Shenstone House. Call in and see us for a coffee and a look, you don’t need to wait until your next appointment!
